Where it all began
Back in 1823, a group of local men bought a piece of land in Mellor Brook and built a chapel. It served as a chapel for 10 years before being turned into a school, known as St. Saviour's Chapel, for the next 46 years. After that, the building was used to support the local community, especially to those in need. Over time, the property changed hands and was expanded. A reading room was added for the young men in the village, which became so popular that a recreation room was built in 1895. That same year, a playground was added behind the community rooms for the school. St. Saviour's Chapel stayed in use until 1962. After that, the church decided to reopen it as a community centre in 1965. Since then, it has served the village as a valuable gathering place.

Back in 2004, the Mellor Brook and District Community Centre was at risk of closing down. Local recording studio manager Seamus Heffernan (now committee chair person) stepped in to help by organizing a concert to raise money. Seamus and his partner, Janet Aspin, invited three talented Australian musicians.
The event took place in July 2004, with about 100 people showing up—some to support the community centre, others out of curiosity, and a few simply to enjoy the popular Bushy’s ale from the Isle of Man.
Twelve years later, Manchester band 4-Square played at the centre, the 100th live show organized by Shamrock Promotions. This special concert, featured a finalist from BBC’s Young Musician of the Year. This Showcases the incredible talent that performs at this community hub in the Ribble Valley.
Shamrock Promotions put on shows, bands and events at the community centre. To find out more click the button below
