The existing mill known as Robert Hamilton (Mellor) Ltd is locatated in a predominantly residential area close to the village of Marple Bridge.   The postal address is Mellor. 

The site is around 600m from the centre of Marple Bridge to the north-west.   The site lies in a valley alongside Longhurst Lane in Mellor.  It interrupts the mid-point of what is otherwise a continuous ribbon of housing from the centre of Marple Bridge to Mellor.  The village centre of Mellor is approximately 1km to the south-east of the site.
