The history of the site in Mellor began back in 1876 with William
Jowett, a local mill owner, building a cotton wadding factory. Joseph
Lingard acquired the site in 1928.
A map of the county of Cheshire shows the existing site with the hills
of the Pennines as a backdrop. The mill has been within the Lingard
family for over 80 years.
Marple Bridge's heritage can be seen in its Victorian architecture
which remains unscathed by modern designs.
